Hopefully this is not an unintended April Fool's joke. I have only added once or twice to the web story thus far but plan on being more active here along with my reading blog on WordPress, Picnic with a Book. There are many stressful events and changes about to happen this month from state testing at work (I'm a high school English teacher) to my move into my own studio apartment. This move will be the first time I am living 100% on my own, let me tell you, I've accumulated a lot of "stuff" over the years! I will definitely need to throw some things out and leave some things boxed just to have room to walk around the 525 square foot layout. I will not be signing up for cable so my free time can be used to craft, write, draw, take pictures, blog, paint, etc. (and play minecraft) instead of binge watching TV...unless I'm visiting my boyfriend for the weekend then binge watching our fave series is totally allowed and expected; plus movie marathons!
This is a year of changes, from my last post stating this journey started over the summer from bad break up to the rediscovery of myself, my birthday at the end of the month is sure to be awesome (though I will be celebrating 32! later than my actual birthday due to logistics). I have state testing next week, taking vacation from the 19th through the 22nd to see San Antonio (expect pictures & written accounts!), though my new lease starts on the 19th I wont be moving in until the 22nd after returning from vacation. The week leading up to my birthday and the day of will be spent unpacking, organizing, decorating my new place (plenty of bookstagram photos for my reading blog account will be had!), and adjusting to being on my own for once. The night of my birthday I hope to have a movie or dinner date with my sweetheart as we'll also be celebrating 6 months around that time. May 4th the beau and I will be heading to my parents' to visit them and my brothers for my birthday celebrations. I am a woman who likes to have a generalized plan but never expects things to happen just the way I intend them to.
Speaking of plans and intent, April is National Poetry Writing Month! A part of why I am cleaning up and reorganizing the blog is to post my poems for this month. The idea is to write a new poem a day; this gal has just finished work and needs to run errands before she can sit and scribble in her journal (I have a writing prompt journal just for poetry).
The new year is underway and I will not say "New year, New me!" as a new me came about over the summer after a devastating end to a nearly 3 year relationship and as I ventured into the world of chronic health issues. Everything is finally back to where it should be. I am no longer the rock-hard, hair shaved, angry feminist promising to never love again. No, by the end of October my heart had been softened by a man who respects me and supports my endeavors (and will assist when he knows my crazy, stubborn self needs a break or has taken on too much...as I am known for doing). Moving out of the apartment I shared with my ex, apartment viewing, and applying for my own studio apartment has proven to be an adventure. This weekend I plan to submit my application for my first place. I have either lived at home with my parents or with a boyfriend, never entirely on my own and I owe it to myself to do so at least once. Aside from personal/home life I have taken on other ventures such as: continuing the web story (chapter 3 is in the works), a colleague and I have begun a local creative writing peer review group to aid ourselves and friends in revision/editing of our personal projects, and I am taking down the jewelry website "Ideas are Brewing" to rename, revamp, & re-brand my hobby to hopefully turn it back into a business. Originally I had planned on selling more than jewelry and soap, however, a better business model has me not stretching myself thin. Every so often if I am proud of a piece I wish to part with I may list it for sale; these items may include journal covers, paintings, cross stitch, etc. For now though I will focus on my writings, jewelry, and handmade soap. Originally I worried that living on my own during the summer would lead to feeling alone or isolated from the world, on the other hand my sweetheart has suggest that I find a work space outside of my abode where I can create my jewelry, update my websites, and write as though I were off to work for the day. A wonderful idea that I will implement; all I need now is to find such a location and work up a schedule for the summer.
As you can see I have condensed the website down moving old things to the "2017 Archives" tab up top. A massive update for my friends and follower who think that I might have disappeared: I'm still here, I haven't figured out how to turn invisible or teleport yet! All kidding aside, these last couple of years have been crazy! I am now a certified teacher and work for a magnet high school in Houston, TX. Due to the advancement of my career from substitute teacher to writing tutor to a full-fledged teacher, as well as health issues for my parents and myself I've been preoccupied. Now that I am learning to balance my health, all other things related to "adulting," and my career you will see me add to this site periodically. Speaking of site additions, I've posted chapter 2 of the web story, check it out! I would not expect there poetry posted often this year although I am writing it...I've decided to return to school for a master's degree in creative writing, therefore any new pieces I write that I feel are of publishable quality will actually be added to my portfolio for grad school applications.
