April 1st:
Prompt: Children Five flowers in a garden tended to carefully as the neighbor’s toddler played in the sandbox next to the herbs. The child’s laughter as a ladybug crawls on her arm: a simple joy I cherish during a single hour every weekday afternoon while babysitting. The little one’s mother out running errands; a favor to the both of us. The leaves of my blue flowers gently misted from the spray bottle in my hand, the baby crawled to my side, her signal that she is tired of playing and has had enough sun and heat for the moment. Sitting in the shade upon the garden bench the wee lass in my lap I tell her tales of five brave youngsters navigating fantastical lands. She delighted in our story time-when this adventure concluded she was prepared for her nap. I climbed up the stairs with my neighbor’s daughter carried on my hip, we reached the landing just in time to greet her mother. --- --- --- --- --- After I tucked my little darling into her crib I unloaded the groceries; from my kitchen window I watched my neighbor return to her flowers in the garden as she does every day. Sometimes she sits in silence and others she’ll talk to them as they grow, yet five times a year she’ll weep at the feet of the angel statue near the fountain. Everyday without fail she’ll end her time outside with a prayer, in front of her five flowers and return to her apartment-- I wont see her again until she picks up my child the next day.
